Shoutout LeRoy McCarthy for making this a reality.
The block in question is a portion of St. James Place, between Gates Avenue and Fulton Street. The area will rightfully be changed to Biggie’s birth name, Christopher Wallace Way. “Honoring Biggie symbolizes more than just one man,” LeRoy McCarthy, the man who started the whole initiative told Rolling Stone. “It symbolizes a culture. It symbolizes a borough. It symbolizes a people, and hip-hop is worldwide.”
LeRoy is pushing to have the name-change official by Biggie’s birthday that lands on May 21st. Biggie murals are already up in the city like the “King Of New York” painting located at Bedford Avenue and Quincy Street as well as another mural on the exterior walls of the grocery store the rapper used to work at.
